We all know that “necessity is the mother of all invention.” It’s been a part of novusweb’s history over the past 20 years or so, as well. Several years ago, we needed the ability, for instance, to create a complex product type that was not available natively in Magento. So, we built a Magento extension for it and sold that extension online. It sold pretty well.
Last year, I was frustrated that there was no easy-to-use collection filter app for Shopify that could handle the large catalogs and features our clients were tackling. So, we decided to build an app that would fully leverage some pretty cool, under-the-hood features of Shopify and build what has to be the best app of its type.
I’m happy to say that as of the week of this post, our first Shopify app was approved and released on the Shopify app store.
It’s not particularly expensive, either, but it does mark a decided shift in our company’s direction and fortune. Until now, we have been — and continue to be — focused on helping online merchants build and prosper online. It’s pretty safe to say that over the 20+ yrs I’ve been in this game, our clients have grown and built very prosperous businesses under our tutelage.
However, our skillset is quite rich. Our team knows a lot about Magento, Shopify and BigCommerce. They know a lot about marketing, email and social media. The team is quite adept at design and branding, too.
So, why not leverage all this in-house talent toward creating an ancillary business that would produce a nice ROI and a steady, growing stream of income?
We have lots of great plans in store for novusweb360.com, our software development arm. Over the coming months, you’ll see more apps and themes begin to pop up on the nw360 site.
For now, though, we’re taking just a bit of a breather as we consider this initial milestone: our first subscription-based app. It is indeed time to pop-a-top on a cold Lone Star longneck.
