We’re extremely thrilled to announce our new Magento 1 to Magento 2 Migration program. It’s important to us that we’re able to bring an affordable, thorough process to those who want to take advantage of Magento 2’s advantages.
Should I migrate to Magento 2?
We do get this question a lot. And it’s one we’ve considered for our own managed properties. The answer is, “it depends.” But, the answer is not yes or no. It’s when.
Magento 1.x has about another year or so of active use, meaning Magento, Inc. is not going to continue improving 1.x. Everything is focused on Magento 2 now. As long as you’re happy with your store’s performance and stability, you shouldn’t be in a rush to migrate. But, you will need to at some point.
Another consideration is the level of customization in your installation. If you’re dependent on a large number of niche extensions or you have had developers customize functionality in Magento, then be prepared to wait for more extensions to become Magento 2 compatible. The good news here is that more and more are becoming Magento 2 ready.
What about theme design in Magento 2?
At present, there aren’t many themes that are Magento 2 ready. However, the reality is that you’re not going to be able to migrate your current theme. When we do migrations, we apply the store’s branding design to a new, responsive layout. Usually it’s time to do a face lift, and having a mobile-friendly layout is key in today’s growing mobile commerce world.
What’s the best way to make a Magento 2 migration decision?
I realize this may sound like a sales pitch, but it’s not: go to our request form and send us some details about your current installation. We’ll contact you soon with an analysis of costs, challenges and opportunities. Then we can talk it over.
We’re offering this service as a convenience to the many, many Magento store owners who need an honest assessment.
